A car radiator helps keep the engine from getting too hot. It works like a heat exchanger, meaning it removes heat from the engine’s coolant and releases it into the air.

In simple terms, hot coolant from the engine flows into the radiator through small tubes. A fan blows air over these tubes, and the radiator’s fins help transfer the heat from the coolant to the air. This cools the liquid before it goes back into the engine.

Most modern cars use aluminum radiators because they are lightweight and efficient. The coolant, usually water mixed with other fluids, keeps circulating between the engine and radiator—absorbing heat from the engine and then cooling down in the radiator.
