The steering gear assembly (rack and pinion or steering box) converts the rotation of your steering wheel into the side-to-side motion that turns the front wheels, giving direct and precise steering.
How to Use This Product
Replace your steering gear assembly if your Maruti Zen shows any of these signs, then fit and use it as described below:
- Heavy or stiff steering
- Play or looseness in the steering wheel
- Noise or grinding when turning the wheel
- Fluid leaks around the steering unit (power steering)
- Steering that does not self-centre properly
Fitting Steps
- Confirm the SKU and the compatibility table match your Maruti Zen variant and year
- Disconnect the battery, lift the vehicle, support it on axle stands and remove the front wheels
- Disconnect the steering column coupling, the tie rod ends and, if fitted, the power steering hoses
- Unbolt the old unit, fit the new steering gear and tighten the mounting bolts to the manufacturer's torque
- Reconnect the coupling, tie rods and hoses, then refill and bleed the power steering system if applicable
- Get a wheel alignment and check the steering wheel is centred before driving
